Bonk is a cryptocurrency that was created to address the challenges faced by the Solana blockchain platform, even before the recent issues that caused the SOL token to drop in value. Despite its previous high ratings, Solana has been impacted by negative actors who have sought to profit from the platform rather than contribute to its growth.
Launched in December 2022, Bonk is a meme token that was distributed through an airdrop of around half of its total supply. This airdrop was targeted at key players in the NFT development, investment, and other areas, and many of these tokens ended up in the wallets of top developers, investors and other key players. Although the airdrop had an immediate positive effect on the price of SOL, the long-term impact of Bonk on the Solana community is also seen as promising.
